Naked Island

Nature & Landscapes

Naked Island is a white sandbank with no vegetation off Siargao. A highlight of local island-hopping, it combines with Guyam and Daku Island for a half-day on turquoise seas.

Naked Island is a pristine sandbank off Siargao, in the province of Surigao del Norte. Without trees or shelter, this ribbon of white sand barely emerges above the turquoise waters of the Pacific. Visitors reach it by boat from General Luna for a bare-bones beach stop, often combined with Guyam Island and Daku Island during an island-hopping excursion.

Quick facts

  • Access: boat from General Luna port (Siargao) — excursion organized by local agencies or bangka rental operators.
  • Recommended duration: 30 to 60 minutes on the island; usually included in a half-day of island-hopping.
  • What to wear: swimsuit, biodegradable sun protection recommended — no natural shade.
  • What to bring: water, food and an umbrella, no infrastructure on the sandbank.

What to see

A white sandbank roughly one hundred meters long, ringed by shallow water in shades of emerald green and lagoon blue. The horizon is clear in all directions. At high tide, the exposed surface shrinks noticeably. A few tropical fish are visible with snorkel and mask near the edges.

Highlights of your visit

Wading through the water

The sandy bottom around the bank is shallow for several meters. You can walk around the islet in warm water, with a 360° view of the Mindanao Sea.

Morning light

In early morning, raking light brings out the turquoise tones of the water and the white of the sand. Excursions typically depart early from General Luna — arriving first avoids crowds from tour groups.

Siargao island-hopping

Naked Island is almost always visited with Guyam Island and Daku Island. The bangka circuit connects all three in a half-day, each island offering a different atmosphere.

Photography tips

Light is best in the morning, before the sun reaches its peak. Photograph from the water, moving a few meters from shore, to frame the sandbank with the horizon. Drones are popular here — verify current CAB regulations in effect in the Philippines before flying.

Location and access

Naked Island lies in the bay off General Luna, Siargao's main tourism hub. Bangkas (outrigger boats) depart from General Luna's waterfront. Island-hopping excursions are offered by numerous local operators and agencies on site. Siargao is accessible by air from Cebu or Manila via Sayak Airport (Siargao Airport).

Nearby

  • Guyam Island — small wooded islet with coconut palms, ideal for picnicking, minutes by boat away.
  • Daku Island — the largest of the three islands on the circuit, with permanent residents and fresh fish restaurants.
  • Cloud 9 — Siargao's iconic surf break, with its wooden observation tower on the reef.
  • Sugba Lagoon — enclosed lagoon in the mangrove, accessible by boat from Del Carmen.
