Capas

·

Gateway to Mount Pinatubo, Capas blends volcanic trekking, natural hot springs and the memory of the Death March, 2 hours 30 minutes north of Manila.

Capas invites you to embark on memorable adventures in southern Tarlac province. Renowned for its spectacular landscapes, this first-class municipality harbors equally stunning tourist attractions.

History

The Kapampangan, the region's dominant ethnic group, and the Aeta, the indigenous people, originally inhabited the lands that form present-day Capas. In 1711, Augustinian friars founded the town, giving rise to a community that gradually developed over the centuries.

During World War II, Capas became the center of the Bataan Death March. Japanese forces first transported captured Philippine and American soldiers by train, then marched them to Camp O'Donnell, a former American military camp converted into a detention center. This episode bears witness to the suffering endured by prisoners and the local population.
